Chapter 14

Taani's tears wouldn't stop falling as she saw her family becoming smaller and smaller in the side view mirror. Yuvraj hated that she was so heartbroken.

He shifted a bit closer and hugged her to himself. Keeping her head on his chest, he gently caressed her hair. "Bas bhi kar dijiye biwi sahiba, is tarah to aap apni tabiyat kharab kar lengi, aur ye humse bilkul nahi dekha jaega." (𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒎 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒏'𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕.) He wiped her tears, only for more to fall after them.

Taani wrapped her arms around his waist and hid her face in his chest, sobbing every so often. Yuvraj continued to mumble soothing words in her ear, hoping for her to calm down. At last after a few more minutes, she stopped crying but her arms remained locked around his waist.

Yuvraj could not describe the things he was feeling because of their close proximity, her body scent was making him want to sniff her again and again. He could not help but notice how she fit perfectly in his arms, as if she was made just for him.

Taani didn't know when she fell asleep in her husband's arms, who continued to caress her hair and mumbled loving words in her ear. She felt safe and loved with him and could not help but think yet again. 'Why couldn't you be mine?'

Soon they were entering the gates of Singhania villa, where everyone was waiting to welcome the new bride. Yuvraj gently tapped on Taani's shoulders to wake her up from her slumber. She woke up and saw how his whole family was dancing on the beats of dhol (drums).

Yuvraj got out and then turned to help her with her lehenga. The dhol was so loud that she couldn't even hear what anyone else was saying. Her mood lightened up a bit and she gave a loud cheer as Rishi, Karan and a few of their friends started dancing around them.

Afterwards, they were welcomed inside where Taani was asked to gently kick on a round pot filled with rice. She then stood on a plate filled with crimson coloured water and walked on a white coloured cloth to mark her footprints. (It is considered auspicious to mark the footprints of a bride when she enters her in-laws' house for the very first time after marriage.)

"Come on come on it's time for another ceremony now!" Divya said dragging Taani along with her to the couch followed by Yuvraj, who sat alongside her.

Divya then called someone to place a huge bowl filled with milk, turmeric and rose petals in front of them on the centre table. "I'm going to put this ring inside the pot and whoever finds it first will be the winner, alright?" Taani, who was already familiar with this ritual, nodded her head in acknowledgment.

"Kehte hain jisne bhi ye ring zada baar dhud li, shaadi ke baad uski hi chalti hai." (𝑰𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔, 𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒆.) Meenal teased, laughing along with everyone.

"Ab to dhudni hi padegi." (𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘.) Yuvraj smirked at Taani, who in return narrowed her eyes at him.

"Game on, dear husband!" Replied Taani with a devilish smile of her own. Their friends hooted and cheered for them, hyping them up even more.

"Ring to koi bhi dhude, chalegi to bhabhi ki hi." (𝑫𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏'𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓-𝒊𝒏-𝒍𝒂𝒘 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕'𝒔 𝒊𝒕.) Said Rishi as he went to stand beside her, acting as her bodyguard.

"Kameene! Itni jaldi party badal li?" (𝑹𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒍! 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒔𝒐 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒖𝒉𝒉?) Yuvraj said, narrowing his eyes at his treacherous brother.

Taani snapped her fingers in front of him to get his attention and said. "Tameez se baat karein, dewar hain wo humare!" (𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚, 𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓-𝒊𝒏-𝒍𝒂𝒘!) Rishi laughed out loud and hugged Taani briefly, thoroughly enjoying the anger flaring in his brother's eyes.

Yuvraj narrowed his eyes dangerously at his wife and murmured. 'Tumhe to mai akele mai dekhta hu.' (𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒆'𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆.)

Divya took the ring and put it inside the bowl and told the couple to find it. Yuvraj and Taani both put their hands inside the bowl at the same time but while Taani was focused on finding the ring, Yuvraj was just having fun with her.

Yuvraj would try to hold her hand every chance he would get, neither finding the ring himself nor letting her find the ring as well. Taani widened her eyes at him once in warning but when he did it yet again, she sharply scratched him with her nails.

"Ouch!" Yuvraj yelled, moving his hand away from hers. "Apne zehreele nakhun mujhse dur hi rakho!" (𝑲𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒏𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒆!)

"Haan to aap apna hath humare hath se dur rakhiye!" (𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆!) Replied Taani, continuing with her search to find the ring and at last she found it.

"Yayyy!" She excitedly shouted showing the ring like a trophy, not knowing that Yuvraj had already found it twice but had let it go so that his wife could be the one to find it instead.

Everyone cheered for the new bride and teased the groom saying he should do a better job now or he would have to become a slave of his wife. Yuvraj ignored all the taunts, more focused on the happiness and the huge smile on his wife's face.

Once again, they were told to find the ring and this time, Yuvraj was the one who found the ring. Taani gave him a cute angry pout at that which Yuvraj enjoyed far too much and was tempted to make her lose one more time for it.

The third round was the last round and would have been a tie breaker. Yuvraj clearly knew how much it meant to his wife, and he himself didn't care much about the outcome so he let her have the ultimate win.

"Yayyy!" Taani gave a loud cheer, flaunting the ring in his face and he did nothing but savour the happiness on her face and the sparkle in her eyes.

Everyone cheered for the bride. "Bhaiya taiyaar ho jao gulami karne ke liye." (𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚.) Said Rishi, smirking at his brother, already knowing that he deliberately let Taani win.

"Ready Mr. Singhania?" Asked Taani, with a cute giggle, feeling extremely happy with this small win.

He lowered his head in front of her and replied. "Jo hukum Mrs. Singhania!" (𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒂𝒚, 𝑴𝒓𝒔. 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒂!) All their friends hooted and cat called, calling him whipped while Taani just lowered her head with a blush on her cheeks which instantly became red like a tomato.

All the rituals were over, and everyone was just enjoying and dancing all around, the bride would sometimes join them as well. So far she was enjoying being here and was thinking that getting married might not be so bad after all.

Yuvraj still remembered how she had fainted due to weakness and exhaustion the other day on their mandap, so he went to the kitchen and ordered one of the househelp to prepare a plate of food and take it to his wife.

The househelp went to Taani with the plate filled with food, its delicious smell was already making her salvate but she still requested her to keep the plate on the table and did not touch it at all out of hesitation as no one else was eating yet.

Yuvraj who was seeing it all, furrowed his brows in slight anger, knowing exactly why she was hesitating but he didn't care about anyone else but his wife's well-being at the moment and took out his mobile to text her.

'Eat the food!' He ordered

Taani checked her mobile as it chimed and saw that it was none other than her bossy husband. She rolled her eyes at his equally bossy command, which didn't go unnoticed by Yuvi. 'I will, in a while.' She replied.

'Eat it right now or I'll be forced to come over there and feed you myself!' Taani's eyes widened. She looked around and found him standing near the kitchen entrance with a relaxed posture, looking the epitome of casual yet hot and sexy.

He raised an eye brow at her, she narrowed her eyes in return and began typing once again. 'You wouldn't dare!' She said. He smirked at the text and replied. 'You still have doubts about what all I can dare to do my darling wife?'

She blushed red like a tomato both at the nickname which he has been calling her with for a while now and at the double innuendo of that text. She typed and deleted a few messages and ended up saying. 'Shut up!'

He narrowed his eyes at her and replied with a simple. 'Have it your way then.' He pocketed his mobile and began making his way towards her, folding the sleeves of his shirt on the way. She looked up at him with wide eyes, already knowing he'll be true to his words and hurriedly picked up the plate.

Yuvraj stopped and saw her taking the first bite, her eyes unknowingly closing in delight, he remembered how she had done the same when he was pleasuring her. 'So food is the love of your life huhh dear wife? I'll make sure you have it on time every single day then!' He thought and sent her yet another text.

'And one last thing my darling wife, the next time you roll your eyes at my texts and calls, you bet there'll be serious consequences!' He sent and walked away, not at all bothered with the cute pout and her angrily narrowed eyes which were throwing daggers at him.

A few hours later, after finally getting tired of talking to the guests who were eager to know all about the new bride, Yuvraj saw her walking out in the back garden, dragging her heavy lehenga behind her. 'Isn't she tired of wearing the heavy outfit all day long?' He thought, making his way towards her.

She walked out and looked around for some time, when the swing, tucked away in a corner beneath a huge tree caught her eyes, it reminded her of the one that used to be at her house. After her grandpa died, she had stopped sitting on it. In fact she hardly used to go over there, so her father had the swing removed from there and put one on the balcony instead.

She went near the white coloured swing and slightly caressed its cool metallic railing with her fingers. The past memories hitting her so hard, it made her legs tremble and for a moment she had to hold on to the railing to keep standing. Her eyes welled up with unshed tears the moment she sat down on it. She slightly gave it a push with her legs, making it swing it back and forth.

Yuvraj observed her from afar for a while, she truly looked lost somewhere in her own world, consumed by her thoughts. He was conflicted if he should let her be or should go and give her some company. 'Maybe it was hitting her now that we have indeed gotten married?' He thought and at last decided to just go to her.

She was looking straight ahead and so he was sure she would see him coming but she didn't even acknowledge him when he was standing right in front of her, it was like she was looking right through him. "Taani? Taani..?" She blinked her eyes rapidly, her focus coming back once again and saw Yuvraj standing in front of her.

"Hey" She said in a demure voice, shifting slightly to her right making space for him to sit.

"Are you alright?" Yuvraj asked, getting comfortable on the swing. He placed one of his hands around her waist and tugged her to himself, before giving the swing a slight push with his long legs.

She looked down at his henna covered hand on her waist, and remembered how her grandpa used to do the same thing. She unconsciously covered his hand with her and gripped it tight, getting a strange sort of comfort in it.

She looked back up at him and gave a smile full of melancholy, thinking 'He always knows how to comfort me even unknowingly. Maybe he would have been the person chosen by my grandpa, had he been alive right now?'

"Yeah I'm fine, just a little tired." She finally replied resting her head on his shoulder.

"Hmm ye shaadi ka taam jhaam to kuch zada hi khich gaya." (𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒆𝒕 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆.) She just hummed in reply indicating how tired she really was. "Tum pakka theek ho na?" (𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕?) He asked while slightly caressing her waist.

"Um hmm all good!" She murmured.

"Let's move inside then. You will get to rest soon, almost all the guests are gone now." He said helping her get up. She turned and gave the swing one last longing look and then walked inside with him.

Divya came and said that two of Yuvi's cousins, Anwita and Smita will take her up to her room, Taani nodded and walked alongside them. They entered a massive room, which looked almost like an apartment in itself. It was huge, with a king sized bed placed in the centre of the front wall, a mesmerizing mirror chandelier on the ceiling above it. The bed was beautifully decorated with red roses, a night lamp on either side of it placed upon intricately carved wooden side tables. A massive television screen was mounted on the wall across it.

A couch was placed on one side of the room with a centre table in front of it and right across it on the other side of the room was an enormous dresser with an ottoman chair placed in front of it for her to sit on. But the best part of the room by far were two big glass sliding doors of a huge balcony which overlooked their back garden. She was literally itching to step outside.

Her room at her home was no less than a dream either but no doubt this surpassed that as well.

"Pasand aaya bhabhi?" (𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒊𝒕, 𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓-𝒊𝒏-𝒍𝒂𝒘?) Asked Anwita, one of Yuvi's younger cousins. Taani just gave her an awkward smile not knowing how to respond to that. She had met and talked to them before as well and knew that both of them were sweet and genuine.

"Aap thak gayi hongi to aaram se baithiye, hum dono chalte hain." (𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅, 𝒔𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒙, 𝒘𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒘.) They said after helping her with the lehenga so that she can sit comfortably on the bed. Taani was just glad that they did not tease her about her first night.

She wanted to check the other two doors which were no doubt for the washroom and the closet but as soon as they both were gone, all the tiredness and exhaustion of this hectic day started to hit her making her yawn every few seconds.

After two long hours, she got tired of waiting for Yuvi, she tried to call him a few times and even texted him asking where he was but there was no answer from him.

She decided to call him one last time and this time the call actually went through but unfortunately it wasn't him on the other side but an unknown girl instead.

"Hello?" Taani asked

"Yes? How many I help you?" The girl asked.

"Isn't this Yuvi's cell?" She hesitatingly asked her.

"Yes it is but he's very busy right now, is there anything important you want me to convey to him?" The girl rudely asked as if she was just some random person. Taani felt a surge of anger going through her.

"Oh no, nothing important!" She angrily replied and abruptly cut the call.

She was feeling so disappointed and emotional that she started to cry. She didn't really hope for a memorable wedding night but had thought that he would at least show up. At last she succumbed to her sleep with a streak of dry tears on her face.

On the other hand, Yuvi had suddenly gotten a call from his assistant that there was an emergency at his company. A significant US based company was backing out of a very important contract, and Yuvi just could not let that happen, although there won't be much of a loss but this will inevitably delay the project commencement and he wanted it to start as soon as possible. He was unable to look into a lot of his work proceedings since the past few days due to his marriage and he knew he had to go and sort this out right that instant.

An emergency meeting was held at 11 at night, all the relevant department heads were called, negotiations were being discussed, their company lawyer was called to file a possible law suit against the party. Yuvi wanted to go through all the alternatives and possibilities before contacting the head of that company and after two hours of non-stop shouting and panicking, they finally connected with him on a virtual call.

And this call once again took two hours to finish but fortunately the deal was back on with better terms even. Turned out that a rival company had offered them an alternate offer and its head was none other than Mr. Vidit Sharma, Raghav's dad. Raghav was the same person who he had literally thrown out of his sangeet ceremony. Alas! Everything was sorted at last and Yuvraj swore to destroy Raghav and his dad.

It was already close to 4 in the morning when he got back from the company. He suddenly panicked, remembering that Taani was supposed to be waiting for him. He checked his mobile and sure enough there were seven missed calls and a few texts from her asking him about his whereabouts.

He ran towards his room and silently opened the door. All the lights were off, it was pitch black inside but he could still see her silhouette on the bed, curved like a baby. He quietly made his way towards her, the slow rise and fall of her chest indicated that she was sleeping. He turned on the lamp beside her face and right that instant his heart fucking shattered looking at her puffy eyes and the tear streaks on her face.

He closed his eyes and face palmed himself. His head throbbing with a dull ache which was increasing by the second. 'Oh God! What the hell did I do!? The first night was supposed to be the happiest for her and she cried herself to sleep instead? How the fuck could I forget to inform her about it!?' He thought to himself. 'It's not my fault though, I'm not habitual of informing anyone of my whereabouts and it was an emergency... Whatever Yuvi, be prepared to grovel for forgiveness because I'm sure she's going to make me beg for it!'

"Raghav Khanna, you made my wife cry on her first night at my home, I swear to God I'll make you regret ever being born!" He swore to himself before silently making his way towards the washroom so as to not disturb Taani's sleep.
